Glass and Mirrors

Does your dining room feel crowded? Is your kitchen too dark? Mirrors can solve these problems and more. Mirrors have functioned as decorative objects throughout history. For Example, consider using mirrors, especially large mirrors, to make a room feel larger. Placing mirrors on one entire wall of a small bathroom or powder room will create the illusion of more space. Sometimes hanging a mirror at the end of a hallway creates the sensation of depth. In a narrow dining room you could place a mirror on one of the side walls and this will make the room look wider. Mirrors are sometimes used to make a dark rooms appear lighter and brighter, to reflect existing natural or artificial light (A mirror set behind a candle will also reflect a nice, warm light) A mirror hung on a wall opposite a window will pick up light streaming in from the window and reflect it back through the mirror. Such mirrors can also be positioned to reflect a scene outdoors so that people sitting with their backs to the window will look into the mirror and see the view as well.

Beautiful, rich looking beveled glass doors bring elegance and charm to entryways, glass windows and glass cabinetry everywhere. A professional glass and mirror company can provide hand beveled glass pieced to perfection and assembled with lead, zinc, or brass came. Glue chip accents on glass offer privacy and panels could be triple glazed for strength, protection, and insulation. Glass can be made in a variety of ways.

Glass examples:

  • Fully Beveled Glass: Each piece of glass is hand beveled then assembled with lead, zinc or brass came to make a panel.
  • Beveled & Textured Glass: Some of the glass pieces are fully beveled and others glass pieces are textured (flat) glass such as antique glass or seedy glass.
  • Flat Textured Glass: Textured glass such as antique glass, seedy glass, or reed glass that is not beveled glass but is still assembled
  • together with lead came.
  • Stained glass: Flat glass but colored in a variety of hues with some variations of textures.

Sandblasted covers three types of glass techniques: frosted glass, shadowing glass, and carving glass. Frosted glass refers to a simple stencil of a design on the glass; shadowing creates a 3-D effect by shadowing the edges of the glass design; carving created the most elegant 3-D design by carving different depths into the glass.

Insulated Glass can be dual or triple glazed. In most cases triple glazed glass is chosen which "sandwiches" the leaded glass panel between 2 sheets of tempered glass to provide insulation and strength to the glass.
